Hello all,

Due to the winter storm the morning session of the KY legislature will be cancelled this Wednesday February 18th. Unfortunately this means the TriAlliance Therapy Day in Frankfort will be cancelled. Most of our activities were scheduled for the morning. Considering there only 13 days left in this legislative session the TriAlliance will be unable to reschedule this event. My sincere thanks to all who dedicate their time and effort to this annual event and to the promotion of our profession. Enjoy the snow!!!

KOTA KPTA Legislative Day Wednesday February 18th 2015

8:45 to 9:00 KOTA and KPTA will meet in the Capitol Rotunda. We have this area reserved until 10:30. 

Speakers include Colman Eldridge. 

We have asked the Governor to attend and present the Rehabilitation Day Proclamation.

We have asked Health Cabinet Secretary Haynes to speak.

We anticipate that a legislator will attend and speak as well. 

10:45 to 1:45

Scheduled appointments with your legislators.

Attend legislative sessions

One of the most important aspects of Legislative Day is meeting with your Legislator. We encourage everyone who is going to attend to schedule time with your Senator and Representative. 

Please contact your legislators office as soon as possible to arrange your meeting. 

Unless you already know your lawmaker, you should email or phone, to request an appointment.  Call 502-564-8100 and ask for your legislator’s office.  You will get the assistant. Ask if you can schedule an appointment for sometime between 10:45 and 1:15 (legislators go into session at 2:00).  To find your legislators, you can look them up at www.lrc.ky.gov (and click on “Who’s My Legislator”, then pull it up by county where you are from).  

If you are student are not from Ky, accompany another student who has scheduled appointments. 

Before talking to your legislator develop your presentation so it will be direct, concise and not excessive in length. (Plan on 15 minutes.) This will help with busy schedules and will be appreciated.
After the meeting:Follow up with a thank you letter and reemphasize key points that were discussed.Follow up with a note of thanks to those staff people who helped to arrange the visit or who participated in the meeting.
